CANACONA: Irked over the unplanned work along the NH66 bypass road at Galgibag, the locals alleged that their complaints to the concerned authorities to fix the puddles along the route have fallen on deaf ears. They further claimed that the stretch has turned into a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes.
They alleged that the work to construct the bypass linking Charasta to Mashem along NH66 has crossed many deadlines as the road has been washed away following heavy downpour. The bad road condition has put the lives of motorists at risk and to add to their woes, construction material has been haphazardly dumped along the route. With no proper drainage at the site of the upcoming bridge, puddles at the site have made the route a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes.
Diogo da Silva, who commutes along the route like many other villagers, said there were several puddles with stagnant water near the bridge under construction, people residing nearby have complained to the authorities about the situation but their complaints have fallen flat. The people fear that with the prevailing scenario there is every possibility of vector borne diseases spreading in the area.
