PANJIM: A day after sugarcane farmers threatened to move the Court for keeping them in the dark over transfer of Sanjivani Sugar Factory land to National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), the State Cabinet on Friday granted “post facto” approval for transfer of four lakh sq mtrs of land.
The Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant also approved payment of compensation of Rs 1,230 per sq mtr to Sanjivani Sugar Factory by the government towards surrender of the land, to be adjusted against grants or loans.

The council of ministers accorded post-facto approval to transfer four lakh sq mtrs of land belonging to the sugar factory in survey No 36/1 in village Piliem-Dharbandora to revenue department for further allotting to establish the campus of NFSU and campus of International Law University.
The Union Minister for Home Amit Shah on October 14 had laid foundation stone for the project.
The allocation of land, without consulting the farmers, was strongly opposed by Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco and Independent MLA Prasad Gaonkar during the recent State Legislative Assembly session.
While the Chief Minister told the House that two lakh sq mtr of land had been transferred, Gaonkar, with documents exposed that around four lakh sq mtr of land had been handed over to NFSU.
Sugarcane farmers of Sanjivani Sugar Factory are upset with the State government over the transfer of factory-owned land to the Central government project without having a general body meeting of the farmers and shareholders.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet approved amendments to the Goa Tourism Policy 2020 and formation of Goa Tourism Board with regards to its powers and functioning.
Also, the Cabinet approved selection and appointment of Mine Developer and Operator (MDO) for financing, development and operation of Dongri Tal-II coal block, Singrauli Coal field- Madhya Pradesh.
