MARGAO: The Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao, on Thursday, issued non-bailable warrant against the present Goa Cricket Association (GCA) chief and then secretary, Vinod Phadke, one of the accused in the sensational 2001 fake cricket ticket case for failing to attend court in spite of summons served on him.
Former GCA president Dayanand Narvekar and Joaquim Pires had obtained exemption from the hearing today.
Other accused charged in the case, Gajanan Bhise, Ramshankar Das, Venkat R Dessai, Chinmay Falari, Eknath Naik and Devdutt Fallari, were present for the hearing when the case was called for the second time.
Judge Pooja C Kavlekar adjourned the matter for August 29 for appearance of Phadke and stated that the case shall be heard every Thursday of the week. Today, Investigating Officer Umesh Gaonkar and Special Public Prosecutor Adv Vinay Borkar were present.
Later speaking to the media, Adv Vinay Borkar stated that trial will commence at the next date of hearing if accused Phadke appears before the court.
All 9 accused have been charged under 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 471 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 420 (cheating) and 201 (destruction of evidence).
