PANJIM: The North Goa District & Sessions Court on Saturday convicted Norman Fernandes for allegedly killing two members of his family at St Cruz in 2013. The court will pronounce the sentence on Tuesday.
The double murder had sent shock waves in the village after police zeroed in on Norman for allegedly stabbing his sister Noreen Fernandes e Vaz and her mother-in-law Aurita Vaz on September 2, 2013 over a property dispute. Noreen’s husband Edgar Vaz was also seriously hurt in the attack.
Old Goa police had charged Norman under sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempted murder), 201 (destruction of evidence) read with 34 (common intention) of IPC among other sections.
According to the indictment, Norman entered the Vaz residence to seek answers about the distribution of some defamatory pamphlets which he said accused him of trying to deprive his sister of family property. He soon left the place but returned with a knife and allegedly stabbed the victims.
