VASCO: The Vasco police have decided to auction oil barrels that were lying at the police station premises for several years. It was also a health hazard for the policemen working at Vasco police station.
According to the Vasco police Inspector Nolasco Raposo, around 30 odd barrels with remnants of oil which are highly opaque viscous and containing high residue were kept in the open space within the Vasco police station jurisdiction for nine years. He said these barrels were attached in different cases booked under Essential Commodities Act by the Vasco police some nine years ago. “To get rid of the same, we had requested the district administration to issue orders to destroy the remnants of oil fill barrels which were corroding and causing a hindrance. The oil from these barrels had leaked naturally as the barrels got corroded and had to be destroyed on priority” Raposo said.
He further added “Taking cognizance of the same, we had written a letter to the District magistrate, South Goa to issue orders to destroy the remnants of corroded barrels and its samples. In response to our request, the additional district magistrate south Goa recently issued orders to auction the Muddemal property (oil barrels) and we have fixed the auction on June 5 2017.”
