VASCO: The Cansaulim panchayat has raised alarm over and illegal permanent construction going on at Arossim beach.
Erection of several poles close to the beach has been going on. Taking the matter seriously, local MLA Alina Saldanha has written to the authorities to inspect and take action against the said work.
Saldanha said, “I have received complaint from the Casaulim Panchayat regarding erection of some concrete poles on the beach in the No Development Zone area along Arrosim. Since this is a NDZ area no concrete structures or permanent structures can be installed here.”
“Therefore, I have written to Dr Shirodkar of GCZMA to visit the site and hold inspection and give us a report of the site. We are awaiting the report,” she said.
Cansaulim Sarpanch Martha Saldanha said that not even one activist came to oppose this work who otherwise are active in opposition. “Is their opposition selective?” Martha asked alleging that a relative of an activist is involved in this work.
Sarpanch also informed that they have no permission from Panchayat or GCZMA. “We have informed the GCZMA, the Mamlatdar and the MLA, but no one has turned up till date for enquiry,” she said.
The sarpanch also informed that the developer has asked for transfer of this property title in his name which is originally owned by a fisherman. Such transfer, she said, isn’t permitted according to the laws of the land. The matter has reached the office the Panchayat Director and would be decided subsequently.
