PANJIM: While Panjim and Ponda cities were declared as the cleanest cities, Anjuna panchayat in North and Cavelossim in South were declared as the cleanest village panchayats.
Goa Governor Satya Pal Malik presented the awards of Rs 50,000 each for the two cleanest cities and two villages in the State as an encouragement to undertake cleanliness under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
The awards were presented on the occasion of Goa Liberation Day, during a public reception hosted by the governor at Raj Bhavan, Dona Paula. Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant also attended the reception.
Panjim Mayor Uday Madkaikar and Commissioner Sanjit Rodrigues received the award on behalf of the capital city while Ponda chairperson Venkatesh Naik and Chief Officer Kedar Naik received the award for Ponda.
Similarly, Sarpanch of Anjuna-Caisua village Panchayat Patrick Savio Almeida and Deputy Sarpanch Sheetal Naik and Sarpanch of Cavelossim Panchayat Dionzio Do Rosario John Conceica Dias and Deputy Sarpanch Jane Fernandes received the awards for clean villages.
