Part of Kerya road caves in

Within a month, road develops cracks; Service road washed away; Locals express anger, blame contractor for sub-standard work

PONDA: A part of the newly constructed NH-4 lane road at Kerya, Khandepar has caved in just opposite the spot were a landslide had occurred last year.
The part of the four-lane  road has developed cracks and ruptures. Locals are worried as the new Highway road is on an elevated road and has been constructed by filling a huge valley at Kerya. The caved four-lane road condition is very bad and the service road is washed away.
The height of elevated road is almost around 14-metres and there is a section by the side of the service road which too has been washed away with the first rains.Locals allege that this is due to the sub-standard quality of work done by the contractor.
The locals have also expressed anger over the condition of the road in just a months time.
Locals said the service road has been hot-mixed on mud without rubber soiling and now the Contractor is trying to hide the fault by covering the caved in road and cracks with cement and concrete.
