Petrol pumps should have fire hydrants, says Menon

VASCO: It may not be a mandatory requirement at present, but Director of Fire and Safety Ashok Menon has stated that all new petrol pumps being set up in the State are being urged to install fire hydrants as an additional safety measures at the petrol pump.

VASCO: It may not be a mandatory requirement at present, but Director of Fire and Safety Ashok Menon has stated that all new petrol pumps being set up in the State are being urged to install fire hydrants as an additional safety measures at the petrol pump.
“The All India Safety Department is also of the opinion that the petrol pumps should have fire hydrants as additional safety measures. Pump owners should have a well in its premises and use the water for the fire hydrants,” said Menon.
“Sharawan Kumar of Bharat Petroleum, who was down in Goa, was also of the opinion that the petrol pumps should have fire hydrants at its location as added safety measures. Since it is not possible for old petrol pumps to have fire hydrants, I have suggested that all new petrol pumps being set up in the State should have this facility,” he added.
