BICHOLIM: Supporting government’s move over entry tax, Sanquelim MLA Dr Pramod Sawant on Sunday claimed that the Congress MLAs, who are opposing the move, are supporting other states rather than the Goans.
Dr Sawant was addressing a press conference at Bicholim. ZP member Shilpa Naik, Bicholim BJP Block president Adv Manohar Shirodkar and Satyaveejai Naik were among others present.
“Businessmen from Belgaum and Kolhapur are more dependent on us rather than us depending on them,” stated Dr Sawant.
He also came down heavily on Sardinha’s statement that tourism would be affected in the State. “There will be no effect on tourism and none should complain about the tax as in Goa we don’t have any other tax or entry fees on any place,” he said.
“The opposition are creating hype about the issue and it seems as if they are not for Goans rather they are supporting the other States. In other states, they have toll fees and there is no harm if we levy entry tax as they also get petrol and diesel at cheaper rate in the State,” stated Dr Sawant.
He said that the State would earn around Rs 50 crore revenue from the entry tax, which could be used building infrastructure at various places.
ZP member Shilpa Naik said the Horticulture department is capable of handling the situation. “This has given us a chance to prove ourselves and our own farmers will be benefited with this,” she added.
