Residents of Pilgao-Bicholim have stated that the village will be heading towards destruction, as a mining company has come up with a new mining project by acquiring huge tracts of land without following proper procedure.
Addressing a press conference here, villagers of Pilgao under ‘Pilgao Village Panchayat and Pilgao Village Development Committee’ informed that they have decided to stand united against the illegal mining project.
“The mining company also brought a stay on the notice sent by the village panchayat with the help of Directorate of Panchayat,” claimed Sarpanch Sangeeta Dhatkar.
“Dhatwada, Mathwada, New wada, Sarmanas and surrounding areas will be severely affected,” stated Dhatkar.
In the recently held panchayat meeting, the panchayat took several resolutions against illegal mining and also demanded with the company to stop the illegal mining project as early as possible. A public meeting was also convened in this connection.
Deputy Sarpanch Sandesh Govekar, Panch Satish Gimonmkar, Anant Gaonkar, Indrayani Usapkar, Mahadev Vengurlekar, Dulo Bhamaikar and Pilgao Village Development Committee members Ravi Jalmi, Ajay Parab, Digambar Gaonkar and others were present during the press conference.
