According to PMC, the Sopo tax was hiked by Rs 1 in open area, that is from Rs 5 to Rs 6, and in market shed it hiked Rs 2 that is from Rs 10 to Rs 12, but despite this the vendors are not paying Sopo tax.
In the meeting, the council passed a resolution to direct PWD to take approval from South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) to renovate and beautify the Kranti Maidan, as several people have voiced concern over the work.
PMC Chairperson Radhika Naik said necessary repairs and other essential work of new market project will be completed in two months, where vendors will also be rehabilitated beside spaces will be given to cooperative sector in the market. “For this, all necessary lease agreement will be done with the vendors and others to generate revenue for PMC,” she said.
The council will be shifted temporarily to the vacant old ID hospital premises during Diwali, as construction of PMC building will start soon.
Naik said in the morning session, the administration power will be given to the vice chairperson and in the evening the chairperson will look after the administration till further decision.
