According to Mapusa police, Vishwas Bhosle, the owner of Goa Dairy outlet at Colvale, filed a complaint on August 12 stating that he had installed a CCTV camera in his outlet and that, the CCTV footage of August 11 captured two policemen stealing four milk packets.
“For the last 3 months, I have been observing that milk packets were being stolen from the shop, but we were unable to nab the culprits. Since CCTV was installed the policemen stealing milk packets have been captured on camera.
On examining the CCTV footage, Mapusa police conducted investigations and identified the policemen as constables Nilesh Karmalker (23) of Bicholim and Prashant Jalmi (25) of Pilgao, who are attached to the Pernem police station. They are new recruits and were on probation.
Police said the duo while returning home after their night duty stole four milk packets from the dairy outlet of Vishwas Bhonsale on August 11.
Mapusa police arrested both the policemen on Thursday. They have been bailed out on condition that they should report to Mapusa police station for five days and should cooperate in the investigations and should not leave the State. The North Goa Superintendent of Police has sought detailed report of the case from Mapusa police.
