PANJIM: Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude on Monday said that the proposal to award students up to Class Xll with grace marks for participating in cultural activities has almost been approved.
“Grace marks will be given to students participating in cultural activities up to Class XII on the same lines as grace marks for sports. The decision to give cultural grace marks for students has almost been approved. The proposal will come for approval at the next cabinet meet,” Gaude said.
He added, “At the recent meeting between officials of Art and Culture Department, Goa Board and Directorate of Education, various points were discussed and as a draft proposal we have listed 30 art forms based on which cultural merit marks will be granted to students of Classes X and XII from the ongoing academic year.”
He said that the intention behind introducing cultural merit marks is to preserve and promote the State’s culture and identity and to have a policy on par with the sports grace marks.
“Unlike in previous years, when due to additional sports grace marks the total marks would cross 100 percent, this shall not happen in this case. The concept is along similar lines of claiming sports marks. Just like students participating in sports activities are given these marks, the contribution of students engaging in art and culture should also be considered,” he added.
