VASCO: Irked over the underground electrical cabling work of private housing project in Vidhyanagar, Vasco, Vidyanagar Residents Welfare Association members on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Collector of Mormugao requesting to stop the ongoing work immediately.
Speaking to the media, Edward Fernandes, president of the Vidyanagar Residents Welfare Association said that a new housing project is coming up in the Vidyanagar locality and for that the underground electrical cabling work has started by the project contractor. When we (locals) went to enquire about the matter and requested the contractor to stop the digging work, he informed us that he has obtained the required permissions to undertake the work and refused to stop. Therefore we are forced to knock the doors of Deputy Collector to intervene into this matter.
When asked about deputy collector’s assurance, Fernandes said that he has received the memorandum copy and asked for time to study and understand the matter.
Paresh Phaldessai, deputy collector Mormugao, informed that he cannot give orders to stop the work without knowing and understanding the subject. Further, there is a need to see whether the necessary permissions have been obtained for this housing project.
In a memorandum copy issued to media, around 71 residents from Vidyanagar has signed the memorandum opposing the underground electrical cabling work in their locality.
