PANJIM: Leader of the Opposition Pratapsing Rane called Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar a ‘nice person’ while launching a scathing attack on the government for its unfulfilled promises.
“We have lot of expectations from the new chief minister. He is a very nice person. We have worked together in the past,” Rane said during a press conference, which he said was called to demand immediate notification of Regional Plan 2021.
The Opposition Leader spoke about how government had failed on various fronts to live up to the expectations of the people be it on the Regional Plan, Lokayukta or compulsory helmets for riders and pillions. Rane, however, refused to point out the existence of any corruption in the current government. “I don’t speak without proof in hand. I will talk on the floor of the House,” he added responding to a question.
Rane suggested that although 15 village panchayats out of 189 have raised objections to the land use plan, the government can publish the plan for the remaining. “Without RP, some people are selling lands and some have started constructing buildings,” he alleged. “Let the government come out with a direction. I don’t understand why there are delays.”
Rane’s statement comes in a stark contrast to party spokesman Yatish Naik’s statement who had said that the plan in current form should not be notified (plan has not been denotified, but held in abeyance). He had said he does not want the government to scrap the existing plan and immediately notify it.
Rane also rued lack of parking facility at the Goa Medical College and hospital premises. On the delayed electricity bills issue, he requested that the government allow consumers time to pay ‘hefty bills’ in instalments.
