Addressing a press conference in Ponda on Wednesday, he justified the State-wide movement on grounds that tenants and mundkars all over the State would be deprived of rights due to the amendments in the Tenancy Act.
“None of the 40 MLAs had raised any opposition to the amendment. Since many people are unaware about the amendment, I am campaigning to create awareness about their rights,” said Naik. He said he would convene such awareness meetings at Sanguem, Curchorem, Ponda, Mayem, Mapusa and Vasco. “Instead of handing over cases to the civil courts, the appointment of more mamlatdars by the State government can easily solve the problem,” he said.
