Vijayawada, March 25
The Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) today said it was mandatory for coastal aqua farmers to register their farms with the Coastal Aquaculture Authority (CAA).
In a release here, Saifuddin, deputy director of MPEDA, said the registration of aqua farms was necessary under the Coastal Aquaculture Authority Act, 2005.
The shrimp farmers, who have not so far registered their farms, have been advised to contact their respective district fisheries offices for registration, Saifuddin said.
The Export Inspection Council of India, in its meeting in August 2008, had stipulated that all registered aqua farmers should be monitored. Besides, it had also said that all farmed shrimps shall be screened for residues of banned antibiotics, the release said.
