PANJIM: The Congress has demanded a white paper on the financial condition of the State as it came down heavily on the government for advertising on selling on bonds worth Rs 100 crore.
“The financial condition of the State has not improved. There is already a loan of Rs 16,000 crore on its head and the government has now advertised selling of bonds worth Rs 100 crore. We demand that government immediately release white paper on the financial situation of the State. It should not just go on taking loans and burden the State exchequer,” Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar said at a press conference on Sunday.
Chodankar reiterated that BJP has been boasting about abundant financial support from the Centre to the State, but it has been borrowing huge quantum of money to make up for the financial constraints.
The party also ridiculed the Pramod Sawant-led coalition government over the recent allocation of additional portfolios that led to many unhappy faces.
“The Cabinet is a ‘lootmar’ cabinet. These ministers are not bothered about the welfare of the people; they only want to fill their pockets. Several ministers have publicly expressed their unhappiness with allocation of portfolios and this shows how they are pressurizing the chief minister,” he commented.
Sawant’s redistribution of portfolios seemingly created unpleasant atmosphere amongst the ministers as hours after releasing an order on Friday, the CM held back the notification till Monday after Ministers like Mauvin Godinho, Nilesh Cabral, Milind Naik, Manohar Ajgaonkar and Deepak Pauskar expressed their displeasure over the portfolios allocated to them.
Some of these ministers like Pauskar and Gaude even stated that they were not consulted before the reallocation of the portfolios. Minister Jayesh Salgaonkar, speaking on the sidelines of a function on Sunday, feigned ignorance about the recent development stating, “I am learning about it through the social media. I haven’t got anything officially. I will comment only after I get it officially.”
Salgaonkar however did not demand any portfolio stating, “Being allowed to work in the given portfolio is enough. Every portfolio is a good portfolio. I will give justice to it.”
