PERNEM: Deputy Chief Ministers Chandrakant Kavlekar and Manohar Ajgaonkar distributed relief to flood affected farmers in Pernem, on Friday.
The team appointed by the agriculture department to assess the losses, identified 256 beneficiaries. These beneficiaries are only those who cultivate banana and vegetables. The Pernem Zonal Agriculture office had received 680 applications from the farmers of which 256 applications were from farmers cultivating banana and vegetables.
Ajgaonkar said, “Since Ganesh Chaturthi festival is arriving, the CM decided to directly transfer the relief amount into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries, instead of distributing cheques. These beneficiaries include only the farmers cultivating banana and vegetables, because these farmers sell bananas and vegetables during Chaturthi and celebrate the festival. However, other farmers will get their relief amount after the Chaturthi.”
Informing that the government had bypassed the procedure to provide quick relief to flood affected farmers, Kavlekar said, “Beneficiaries, who are assessed to receive relief below Rs 50,000, will get the money transferred into their accounts by today itself. However, those entitled to above Rs 50,000 will get the money transferred within the week after following few more procedures.”
Pernem Agriculture Zonal office also distributed 400 coconut samplings under MLA quota to 400 farmers whose coconut plantation was damaged in floods.
