MARGAO: Thanks to the intervention of local MLA and Fisheries Minister, Avertano Furtado, the stretch of road passing on the side of the Navelim Church to the KRC may finally get widened and help remove traffic bottleneck at the Navelim Church junction.
Monday saw the owner of a private property Casiana D’Souza voluntarily giving her land for the road widening by demolishing the compound wall. That’s not all. The Parish Priest of Navelim Church, Fr Jose Rock Gonsalves, told the Fisheries Minister that the authorities may utilize some land along the road side behind the Church and build a footpath for the benefit of pedestrians.
Heavy machinery was deployed to raze down the compound wall this morning and the work was completed within no time. Casiana told newsmen that she has removed the compound wall as per the request of the Fisheries Minister on condition that the wall will be reconstructed again.
Avertano later told newsmen that the removal of the compound wall will go a long way in widening the road and address traffic congestion at the Church junction. He expressed his gratitude to the family, besides the Parish Priest for voluntarily giving the land, widening of the road and the construction of a footpath.
