Retired teacher dies after parked tempo reverses at Savoiverem

PONDA: In a tragic road side accident a parked tempo at Savoi Verem suddenly started moving in reverse and took the life of a retired teacher. 
The driver of the tempo, supplying vegetables from Horticulture Department, parked the vehicle on a slope in a residential area reportedly without taking the necessary measures. It reversed for about 50 metres and in the process killed the retired teacher, Chandrakant Naik (66), who was downloading the goods.
Naik, who used to run an outlet at his son’s house, tried to save himself but he was smashed between the tempo and a pole. Naik instantly breathed his last with the impact. The tragic accident took place at Pazer Savoi Verem. 
It is learnt that the Horticulture Vehicle loaded with vegetables had arrived early morning around 5.30 am to supply goods to Horticulture gaddas at Savoiverem.
The vehicle was parked on a slope and sources said the driver must have forgotten to make use of his handbrakes. One person’s mistake cost another man his life said another local from Savoiverem.
Ponda Police arrested the driver for negligence.
