PANJIM: NGO GenNext has demanded that the government immediately revoke the transfer order of Deepak Desai, who has been transferred as the Commissioner of the Corporation of City of Panjim (CCP).
Addressing a press briefing on Sunday, GenNext vice president Commander (Retd) C Bhatia said that a corruption-free officer to the rank of IAS or State cadre officer should be appointed to the post.
“Desai is one of the accused charge-sheeted in the Ruby Residency collapse case. He should come out clean on the case, only after which the government should give him any important posting,” he said.
Desai was amongst several others arrested in 2014 for issuing occupancy certificates and other permissions for the Ruby Residency project, owned by Bharat Developers, as the Chief Officer of the Canacona municipality. They were charge-sheeted thereafter, and Desai, along with the other suspended officers, were reinstated.
Bhatia, suspecting foul play by BJP-led coalition over Desai’s appointment as CCP Commissioner, alleged that the latter signed documents without scrutiny.
“He is known for signing and giving permissions without verification. We doubt his fresh appointment is in the wake of the opening of the ODP. All this is to benefit politicians,” said Bhatia, adding, “Many clean officers are awaiting postings. Appoint an IAS officer, and if it is not possible, go for GPSC officers who have clean backgrounds.”
Meanwhile, GenNext chairman Durgadas Kamat has questioned the government’s intention behind issuing a tender for the proposed panchayat football ground at Assolda.
