The decision was made at an emergency meeting on April 10, a few days after the government declared the RND as an essential service by invoking ESMA (Essentials Services Maintenance Act).
“In view of the concrete assurance given by the RND, and the appeal made by the conciliation officer Fatima Rodrigues and labor advisor S A Deshprabhu, the staff has agreed to defer the proposed strike by 10 days to give the RND and government a reasonable opportunity to act on the workers’ demands,” AITUC general secretary Christopher Fonseca said.
