PONDA: The series of mishaps persist on the recently widened bypass that runs through Bondbag village of Bethora panchayat. Within the span of four days, two road accidents have occured, resulting in significant repercussions. One incident left a youth gravely injured, increasing the dangers posed by speeding vehicles to the school children attending the nearby institution. Frustrated by the lack of tangible actions from the authorities, locals are demanding substantive measures from the Public Works Department instead of mere lip service.
Last Saturday, in a distressing incident a two-wheeler rider collided with a herd of stray cattle occupying the road, resulting in severe injuries. Presently, the youth is undergoing treatment, highlighting the precarious nature of navigating the thoroughfare, especially around sharp turns, catching many motorists off guard.

In a separate incident on Monday afternoon, a collision ensued when a car plowed into another vehicle parked alongside the road. Fortunately, there were no casualties, but both vehicles sustained considerable damage.
“The recent widening of the road through Bondbag has inadvertently led to an increase in vehicular speed, posing a significant threat to the safety of approximately 30 school children attending the nearby government primary school. Despite numerous pleas from locals and parents, the promises made by PWD engineers have failed to materialize into actionable solutions,” voiced a concerned local.
“Even though the area was inspected by local MLA and WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar around three months ago, no tangible progress has been made. It’s only natural for parents to be anxious about the safety of their children,” echoed another local, Sadanand Gaude.
