MARGAO: MLA of Curtorim Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco has warned the government of having an uprising on its hands over the increasing tariffs and poor electricity services of the department if the government doesn’t solve the problems of the people.
Reginaldo has criticised the government over the lack of infrastructure to repair and restore electricity and has asked the government to rollback the prices of electricity until the infra is in place. Reginaldo has vowed to take the government to task in the Assembly over this issue. However it may be noted that Aleixo had skipped the high-level meeting of all MLAs of South Goa and the electricity agency which was hosted aiming at infrastructure overhaul in South Goa.
“The Electricity department here in South Goa totally lacks the basic facilities like the sky lift trucks T5 fixtures and technicians to rejoin the damaged underground cables. The cost of the same has already been taken from the people and is now increasing the burden on people,” said Aleixo.
“In various places, overhead wires still exist after spending a big booty on laying underground cables. The sad part is the powers of the superintendent engineer have been removed and now all the orders are passed by the power minister. This has totally arrested the works of maintenance,” said Reginaldo.
“The Electricity department has delayed the cables work in Camorlim by three years and still counting. If they don’t complete the small works of joining cables and placing fixtures we will come on the road and agitate,” said Jesus Rumao from Raia.
MLA Aleixo has revealed that he has put in several questions in the assembly and the issues of electricity will be his prime target.
Power fluctuations and outages have hit the State in a big way this monsoon season. Almost all areas in the State have been affected.
