Margao City is grappling with a critical safety dilemma as the municipality faces severe criticism for its failure to demolish buildings declared unsafe. Despite being flagged as hazardous, these structures still stand, and the recent issuance of a trade license to a showroom located in one such building has intensified the public outcry.
Residents are caught in a state of uncertainty, torn between heeding evacuation warnings and continuing with their daily lives. Savio Coutinho, Shadow Council Convenor, expressed concern over the municipality granting trade licenses to buildings certified as beyond repairs. Approximately 23 such structures in Margao are in a precarious state, requiring urgent attention.

Dinesh Kakodkar, a local resident, highlighted that the Margao Municipality conducted a survey years ago to identify unsafe buildings, but no substantial action has been taken to repair or demolish them. He urged the municipality to address the situation promptly to prevent any potential tragedy.
