MARGAO: Sarzora villagers while expressing their anguish over the erratic power supply to the village empowered Sarpanch Sabita Mascarenhas to approach the NGO from Balli to deal with the stray cattle that is proving to be a menace to the village.
As the villagers were complaining about the power problem in the village, the sarpanch gave them a mobile number given by power minister. “Whenever I have used this number there has been immediate response and the problem has been addressed,” said the sarpanch and expressed her gratitude to the power minister.
She said that if there is any problem like the streetlight not working or the street light fixture being broken calls to that number evoke quick response.
Sabita disclosed that the cattle pound keeper has given up his job after he was threatened by some people from neighbouring Navelim village as the cattle pound keeper had impounded some cattle whose owners were from Navelim.
The villagers while asking the sarpanch to invite any other local to take up the job by making announcement at the Sunday mass also asked the sarpanch to contact the NGO from Balli that is willing to come and take the stray cattle to their cattle shelter in Balli.
The villagers also expressed apprehensions over the advertisements appearing in papers regarding land available for sale namely the land under Survey No. 97/1 which was sought to be converted by a builder who had purchased it and the panchayat had objected to it as it was low lying land.
Apparently the same land is sought to be sold now by the builder at a cheap rate with inducements like conversion sanad and other documents being available. The Sarpanch informed that the panchayat has already written to various government agencies about this issue.
“I have even written to the Sub-Registrar not to register any sale deed pertaining to this land,” she disclosed and assured the villagers that the panchayat will be closely monitoring what is happening to that land.
