PONDA: The Goa Mining People’s Front (GMPF) on Tuesday warned that agitation is the only option left to demand resumption of mining activity in the State.
Speakers during the meeting claimed that they tried every possible option to restart mining in the State, but could not succeed and urged people to take part in the mega protest march in Panjim on August 29. About 100 people attended the corner meeting at Adinath Mandap, Usgao.
“We don’t have support from the religious organisations nor the political parties. Now, the option left is to agitate, to come on roads demanding resumption in mining business in the State. We are not saying this in support of mine owners, but in support of lakhs of mining dependent people,” said Christopher Fonseca, a GMPF member.
Another member, Adv Raju Mangeshkar, said: “We met every political leader in the State and the country, but nothing happened. Resumption in mining is our only demand and for this we must come together irrespective of political affiliations.”
GMPF Convenor Adv Suhas Naik urged Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to issue a notification regarding lifting mining ban in the State.
