PANJIM: A ride in a seaplane will cost each passenger Rs 2,500 as Tourism Department is looking to launch the service by the month-end once they get approval from the Centre.
Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar said the State would initially launch four of the six amphibious vehicles. “We are certain to get all clearances by this month. Once the Centre gives a nod, the State will complete the remaining formalities to begin the adventure ride,” he told Herald.
Parulekar confirmed that Tourism Department’s three ambitious rides – hot air balloons, amphibious buses and seaplane – would take off before the commencement of the tourist season next month.
“The tourist arrivals were impressive even during this off-season. With the launch of the new adventures, we expect the figures to cross last season’s mark,” he added.
GTDC MD Nikhil Desai said the seaplane ride would cost Rs 2,500 per passenger per trip. For now, the flight will take off from Dabolim airport to Dona Paula, to Coco beach in Nerul, Miramar, Chapora and Mandovi in the first phase. The project awaits Central clearance, which the department is sure it will obtain soon. The tariff is likely to be revised depending on the response.
In the next phase, the aircraft is likely to be used for vacation trips between the three States such as during Ganesh Chaturthi.
