CURCHOREM/PANJIM: The search and rescue operation at Sesa Goa Vedanta Mine at Codli was called off on Sunday late evening and the same will resume on Monday morning.
Dharbandora Mamlatdar Laxmikant Kuttikar, who was present at the site informed that search and rescue operation was called off late Sunday evening and it will resume on Monday at 6 am.
“The personnel from Fire and Emergency Services, NDRF, Navy divers and bomb disposal squad were pressed into service as the mobile of operator Naik was ringing,” Kuttikar said adding that the ripper machine could not be traced but the jeep can be seen.
Additional Collector Ponda Damodar Manoj, Deputy Collector Margao Paresh Phal Dessai, Sanguem Mamlatdar Laximkant Dessai, Quepem Mamlatdar Prataprao Gaonkar, Quepem DySP Uttam Raut Dessai, Sanguem PI Sagar Ekoskar, Canacona PI Rajendra Prabhudessai, Curchorem PI Ravindra Dessai and PSI Sanit Kavlekar were at the site.
“In an unfortunate incident, a worker, Manoj Anant Naik, aged 44 has been trapped in a slope failure in our Codli mine. His family comprises his wife, two children and mother,” an official spokesperson of the company said in a press statement.
“All of us are saddened by the unfortunate mishap. As an organisation that is committed to employee welfare, we are providing all possible support to the family. We have left no stone unturned and continue our rescue efforts working round-the-clock with the support of the navy and the National Disaster Management Team”, the statement further added.
It may be recalled that in a tragic incident a ripper machine along with its operator Manoj Naik, a resident of Khandepar-Ponda fell from the height of around 80 metres and got buried in the mining pit while levelling the area at the Codli mine.
