PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said that the second four-lane of the signature Zuari bridge will be opened on December 22, while a flyover is being proposed at Verna junction.
The first four-lane of the new Zuari cable-stayed bridge was thrown open for vehicular traffic on December 29 last year.

Sawant informed this during his monthly `Hello Goenkar’ live phone-in programme By Panaji Doordarshan. Replying to a matter raised by Vaibhav Naik of Fatorda regarding traffic congestion at Verna junction, Sawant said, “We have proposed to construct a flyover at Verna junction, as a temporary solution, we have taken measures to reduce traffic congestion there. But flyover will be a permanent solution,” he said adding that the State government had already requested the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) regarding the same.
The Chief Minister said that the first government job advertisement through the newly formed Goa Staff Selection Commission for group ‘C’ posts will be released before December 31.
“The process has been slightly delayed and the recruitment process is expected to start immediately after advertisements are published in newspapers and on the Commission’s website (https://gssc.goa.gov.in/). Exams will be computer-based and interviews will be held for the posts in January or February.
Sawant reiterated that one-year experience or one-year apprenticeship will be mandatory for group ‘C’ posts from MTS to LDC.
Sawant told Rupesh Velip of Quepem that the an all-party delegation will soon leave to New Delhi to meet Union Home Minister, regarding political reservation for Scheduled Tribes (ST) communities in the State legislative Assembly.
Sawant stated that the ICU facility at the South District Hospital, Margao, will be made operational after recruiting the doctors.
The Chief Minister said that the State cabinet will accept and implement the suggestions made in the one-man Commission report on land grabbing cases. He said that those buying properties in the State will now think twice and verify all the documents.
