A heavily loaded truck met with an accident while getting down the slope of the housing board road in Siolim on Saturday morning. The accident occurred at around 11, wherein the truck lost control on the steep slope and crashed into a roadside tree. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
The accident caused significant damage to the front portion of the truck, with the windshield and bonnet being completely shattered. The tree that the truck collided with also suffered extensive damage.
Speaking to the truck driver he said that it was found that the truck break failed due to which the driver had to turn the truck towards a tree. Luckily there was no vehicle coming from the opposite side which saved them from a big mishap, he added. he further said that there is no signboard on the road which indicates such a deep slope ahead.
Speaking to a local from that area he said that the road is known as accident accident-prone zone, where 3 accidents in the past 15 days were reported. It has been years where people have lost their valuable lives yet no action has been taken by the authorities. Added further he said that this is the fourth consecutive accident reported in this area.
The accident-prone nature of the road has raised concerns among residents, who are demanding better safety measures to be implemented in the area. Locals claim that after raising their voices on this matter several times the authorities are turning a blind eye. Preventive measures should be put in place to minimize the chances of similar incidents occurring in the future, potentially saving lives and preventing further property damage.
