PORVORIM: A delegation of gaunkars of Serula Comunidade met Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte with a petition to be submitted to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar regarding the postponement of the Comunidade election.
Apprising Khaunte about the Comunidade election held on Sunday, the members alleged that the ruling members had interfered in the election.
“The election was postponed twice by the government. It was under the directions of the High Court that the government conducted the election, but the proceeding was disrupted by the members of the ruling party when the president and substitute president were already elected,” a member told Khaunte.
“There was total failure of the government machinery and the police,” added the delegation and urged Khaunte to take up the matter with the chief minister and request him to direct the authority concerned to complete the election process.
Khaunte assured the delegation that he will stand by the gaonkars and ensure that the issue is resolved amicably. “The election proceeding could not be completed because of the failure of the police and government to act in time,” said Khaunte.
Later, Khaunte along with the members met Parrikar and submitted the petition of the aggrieved gaonkars.
