PANJIM: Stressing on the Rs 35,000 crore spent on various projects and schemes in Goa, BJP National president Amit Shah left mining dependents with only a promise during his address to the booth level workers at Bambolim on Saturday.
Shah made a vague mention about the current mining crisis, but failed to provide any firm assurance to the people, who had met him in the past.
“We will also make all possible efforts to resume mining which has stopped in the State,” Shah said, making just that single reference to the burning issue in the State, affecting around three lakh people.
Nearly 10,000 booth level workers attended the Atal Booth Karyakarta Sammelan at SAG’s Athletic Stadium at Bambolim. Various BJP ministers, MLAs and office bearers were present on the dais. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar made a brief appearance.
The BJP national president listed out various projects and schemes given to the State by the Narendra Modi government, which he said had provided three times more money compared to the UPA tenure.
He said that in the entire country, Goa is where the Modi-led government has invested the highest amount of funds for development and welfare of people.
“During the Sonia-Man Mohan government, Goa had received only Rs 5,000 crore as financial support. But when Modi-led government came to power, it was increased to Rs 15,680 crore which is triple the amount given by the UPA government,” he said.
“Besides this, Rs 18,000 crore was provided for different schemes like smart city, AMRUT mission, Swachh Bharat mission, Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kalyan Yojna, MUDRA bank, Mopa International Airport, Development of Dabolim Airport, Rs 600 crore UJWAL mission yojna and Rs 187 crore for mineral fund totalling to Rs 35,159 crore,” he added.
Shah recalled that funding worth Rs 1,500 crore has been made on parallel Zuari bridge along with other infrastructure like Galjibaga-Talpona bridge of Rs 300 crore, Mopa airport Rs 1,900 crore, development of Dabolim airport Rs 450 crore. “We have also given a Naturopathy and Ayurvedic institute besides IIT and NIT to the State,” he said.
Speaking about the investment in the ship building sector, Shah said the Modi-led government has invested Rs 30,000 crore in Goa Shipyard Limited for its modernisation.
Shah appealed to the people of the State to re-elect BJP candidates in both parliamentary seats so as to get Modi back in power.
