VASCO: After the initial ouster following Herald report, which prompted the concerned authorities to swing into action and demolish the unauthorised growth of shanties, the habitation has crawled its way back just across Dabolim airport’s border right under the flight path posing high risk to the aircraft.
All these happened in a week’s time!
It may be recalled that after the Herald had revealed about the shanties’ growth to be a danger to flights landing at Dabolim airport, the south district administration swung into action and cleared these shanties within 24 hours on last Thursday. However, the habitation gnawed its way back within eight days. It was a shock for the taluka administration.
Speaking to the Herald, the officials of Mormugao Mamlatdar said the moment Herald passed on the message about the migrants’ return and their subsequent encroachment of the land under flight path, the Herald also intimated the police to remove the migrants from the site. However, after consultation with the police, it has now been decided to take help of PWD and remove the migrants under police protection on Friday morning.
“The issue is pretty serious and we cannot take it lightly as they have reoccupied the land illegally; however, we have sent our team to the site and found that they have returned. Now as they are not paying any heed to the directions given by us, we have decided to take severe action against them on Friday,” said a senior official from the taluka administration.
However, the authorities also remained silent when asked why they did not keep strict vigil on the area and how could these migrants re-settle in such a short time? Whether any concrete action will be taken this time to ensure that they don’t return and illegally reoccupy the land only time will tell, but without any doubt such menace should not be taken up lightly by the south Goa administration.
