MAPUSA: The 65-year-old, artist Shireen Mody who was attacked by her gardener during an argument near her apartment in Viegas Vaddo, Arpora on Sunday morning died due to head injuries.
The autopsy report revealed that she succumbed due to injuries on her head caused by a blunt object.
According officials from Anjuna police station it came to light that Mody was allegedly murdered by her 68-year-old gardener, who himself succumbed to his injuries while he was trying to escape from the site after assaulting her with an iron rod on the back of her head.
“The gardener was working with her for the last five years and they often had quarrels over his lack of concentration at work. The CCTV footage has confirmed the incident, while the neighbours also gave a statement that they saw the gardener falling down while trying to escape. The reports, revealed that she died due to blunt trauma on head. The body has been handed over to her family for the last rites,” the police official said.
According to neighbours, Mody and the gardener, Prafulla would regularly get into heated arguments.
The gardener Prafulla, who hailed from Assam tried to run away from the scene of the crime, but fell down on the road few meters away from the apartment. He succumbed to his injuries caused by the fall and later was taken to the Mapusa district hospital in an ambulance where he was declared dead on arrival.
A senior police officer from Anjuna further informed that they have registered an offence against the deceased gardener but the cause of his death will be known after the post-mortem is conducted. However at the moment they have registered his death as unnatural.
