Shiv Sena wants probe into MMC compactor tender

Alleging corruption in the tender floated by the Margao civic body towards the purchase of four garbage compactors, the Shiv Sena has petitioned to the Vigilance department to conduct a detailed probe into the tender.
Ad hoc Committee member Sandeep Vengurlekar alleged that the technical conditions of the tenders were drafted in such a manner that it suited only one party, adding that the technical conditions were not framed by technical persons and no justification was given for the same.
He pointed out that the tender notice was advertised only in the local newspapers when in reality tenders need to be published in national dailies for a tender of the value of Rs one crore.
“We understand that only party will qualify for the tender and that the order is being issued based on a singer tender”, Vengurlekar told the Vigilance, adding that this smacks of corruption as the Civic body ought to have gone for re-tender as prescribed by the CPWD manual. The Shiv Sena has prayed to the Vigilance to order a thorough probe and expose the corrupt.
Attempts to contact Margao Municipal Chief Officer Prasanna Acharya to throw light on the tender proved futile as he was not responding to the call on his cell phone.
