Addressing the media on Saturday, SIO National President Iqbal Hussain said the law should take its own course in the matter. “The sloganeering is to be condemned and proper legal action should be undertaken. But it is not proper to call the university a hub of terrorists,” he said.
Hussain also criticised the ‘manufactured’ facts about the university. “JNU is a vibrant university. The biggest mistake by the vice chancellor was to allow the police to take action. The varsity body should have investigated the matter first,” he said adding that the organization respects the Supreme Court judgment on Guru’s hanging.
Accusing the Central government of interfering in student issues, SIO opined that relevant issues should be debated. “Students need to be given vibrant, liberal, creative and an atmosphere of democracy to debate and discuss any relevant issue. But in the recent past we have noticed there is rampant political interference by the government,” the SIO national president alleged.
Claiming that the government was attempting to suppress the voice of the opposition, Hussain stated that there is now an impression that if one is anti-BJP, he/she is anti-national.
