MARGAO: Save Golden Goa (SGG) has given the government one month to solve the issues of Hospicio Hospital, Margao, failing which the NGO has threatened to start a hunger strike at the hospital premises. SGG has also written to the Health Minister and Deputy Chief Minister informing them of the plight of Hospicio.
“Dy CM Francis D’Souza, as the Health Minister, is incapable of addressing the issues of the Hospicio as there is no solution to the problems we highlighted even six to seven months back,” said Camilo Barretto of SGG.
He further said, “Around 8 to 10 vacant posts, ranging from LDC’s to administrative posts to doctors, are yet to be filled even after six months of being informed by us. We had also met the Deputy Chief Minister, but it seems he is not in a mood to listen to us.”
SGG has also claimed that the Hospicio ambulances don’t have insurance or vehicle passing, and has demanded that the government intervene in the matter. The NGO has also alleged that persons who come for blood tests are called after 10 to 15 days for the reports.
“The casualty building at Hospicio is about to crash and the same has also been confirmed by the PWD in a report. The block has to be shifted soon to avoid untoward incidents in the monsoons,” said Camilo.
SGG further stated that the staff of the X-ray department worked from 9 am to 1 pm, which meant that five technicians were working only for four hours, and immediate action had to be taken against them. The NGO has also demanded a biometric attendance system in Hospicio to keep a check on the staff and that the pharmacy be kept open for 24 hours.
