South beaches to be modernised at a cost of Rs 17.23 crore

PANJIM: South Goa beaches will be modernised at a cost of Rs 17.23-crore with priority being given to the Colva coastal circuit.

PANJIM: South Goa beaches will be modernised at a cost of Rs 17.23-crore with priority being given to the Colva coastal circuit. 
The project is being undertaken with financial assistance from Union tourism ministry and is expected to be completed within 180 days. Tenders for the above development work have already been floated. 
According to a press communiqué issued here Tuesday, the tourism department points out that Colva, Gonsua, Betalbatim and Benaulim beaches in South Goa are located in the Salcete taluka and these beaches are very popular with the domestic and international tourists all through the year.
Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar said, “All South Goa beaches are internationally famous and attract a lot of tourists. Considering the present scenario, these areas demand development, upgradation and facelift, which can help accommodate more tourists and provide better facilities to them that will help boost tourism in South Goa.”
The infrastructure development projects that would be implemented along the beaches in South Goa will include creating and improving various facilities like parking, children’s parks with play area, changing rooms, toilets, seating, pathways and beautification of strategic parts and places of interest along this coastline, which would help in attracting more tourists to the state.
