PANJIM: The State’s board examinations for Class X and XII are likely to be held in April-May 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The final exams for middle and high school classes V to IX are expected to be held only in April next year.
Directorate of Education (DoE) has moved a proposal to the State government for approval to hold the examination in April-May, 2021. The decision has been taken considering the delay in completing the syllabus as well as conducting practical and other examinations due to the pandemic that has truncated the academic year.
Speaking to Herald, Education Director Santosh Amonkar confirmed that such a proposal has been sent to the government. “We are waiting for government approval,” he said.
The Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) exams are proposed to be held from the last week of April 2021, as against the earlier practice of having the exams in February-March, while students will answer the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams from third week of May, next year. SSC exams are annually held in April.
Nearly 37,000 students are likely to answer Class X and XII 2020-21 board examinations next year.
Amonkar also said that the final exams of Classes V to IX and XI will be held in April and the results will be announced in May, 2021. “The decision on re-opening of classes for the academic Year 2021-22 would be taken subsequently,” Amonkar said.
The preliminary examination of Class X and XII are likely to take place in February, according to some schools.
Physical classes for students of standards X and XII resumed on November 21. Prior to that classes were held via the online mode.
