A meeting chaired by Tourism minister Dilip Parulekar activated all agencies working in close tandem to keep a watch and submit daily situation reports for round-the-clock compliance.
“We have activated all lifeguards, beach cleaning contractors and police personnel to monitor and report to the department, areas affected by tar bar depositions,” Parulekar said.
The tourism department also constituted two Special Response Teams, comprising of an Assistant Tourist Officer and two Information Assistants, in each of the two districts.
“The teams have been tasked to inspect and ensure that the beaches are cleaned up wherever reports are received of tar ball depositions,” Tourism director Ameya Abhyankar said.
The beach cleaning contractors have been directed to ensure immediate collection and proper storage of the tar balls which have to be handed over to GSPCB for scientific disposal.
The meeting was also attended by officials from the Tourism department, Goa Tourism Development Corporation, GSPCB and stakeholders.
