MAPUSA: Urban Development Minister Milind Naik opined that there is a need for more waste treatment plants in line with the Saligao plant to deal with the garbage menace in the State.
“There is a need for another plant in North Goa and two more in the South to handle the garbage problem. The area required to the set up this plant is approximately 1 lakh sq mts of land. I have discussed this issue with the DMA and Secretary. I have directed the officials to find a way out to this garbage menace. If plans to set up these plants do not materialize, then, the government is planning to clear the garbage through some other way,” he said.
When asked about the solution to the parking issue in Mapusa he replied, “Parking is a problem across Goa. It is witnessed not only in Mapusa but also in Vasco and Margao. Development is taking place at a face pace; at the same time the number of vehicles is also increasing; every household has nearly three vehicles, but land does not increase,” Naik said.
Speaking to the reporters on the sidelines of a function at Mapusa few days ago, he said that the decision to impose common cadre was to ensure that some control remained with the government.
