PANJIM: Social activist Mahesh Nayak on Friday demanded the dismissal of the Ponda Mamlatdar/Administrator of Devasthans for failing to check the working of the temple committee of Mahaganapati temple, which was burgled on Wednesday night.
Nayak told media persons that as per Article 70 of Devastan Regulations, it was the duty of the administrators to visit the temples and check their day-to-day work. He alleged that many Devasthans do not follow the Articles of Devasthan Regulations and were indulging in illegalities and allowing others to construct houses in Devasthan properties.

Naik demanded that the taluka mamlatdars who are also administrators of devasthans should take interest in devasthan activities. They should check the budget accounts, attend at the time of opening of donation boxes and stop illegalities.
Nayak said that the temple managing committee had failed to deploy security in and around temple premises and had not even done the inventory of the gold and silver ornaments. He alleged that many managing committees were giving inflated figures when it came to expenses. He said that all this would stop only if the mamlatdars who are also administrators keep a tab on the functioning of these committees.
