MARGAO: Margao wore a festive look as Madgavkars celebrated the traditional Dindi festival with great pomp and religious fervour.
Thousands of devotees lined up to seek blessings and offer prayers to Lord Vithal Rakhumaye as the palki was taken in a colourful procession from Hari Mandir on Friday evening.
As per the rich cultural-religious tradition, outstation classical artists performed at the Hari Mandir and other places in the city. The procession which started from Hari Mandir wend its way to the UCO Bank area at New Market, before heading to the Municipal Square and then to Vithal Mandir. A variety of cultural programmes were arranged at Hari Mandir by Dambabalem Ghodem. Besides, a cultural programme was hosted near the Vithal Mandir by local groups.
The police made elaborate security arrangements along the entire route, right from Hari Mandir to Vithal Mandir as a precautionary measure. A watch tower was erected near Hari Mandir manned by armed police personnel as a precautionary measure. The government had also banned vehicle parking along the entire route, while the district Magistrate had ordered closure of the petrol pumps located along the procession route.
The traffic police had a hard time in controlling traffic at the Pajifond area, with traffic diverted along the Aquem-MMC road by the authorities for the smooth conduct the festival.
