Two drown at Merces

In a tragic incident, two brothers from Bamon Waddo, Merces, drowned in a lake at Voile Bhat-Merces on Monday evening.
According to Old Goa PI Francis Xavier Corte, the incident occurred when two labourers from Karnataka, Sadam (mid-thirties) along with his brother Nissar (25), had gone to bathe in the Voile Bhat Lake.
PI Corte further informed that Sadam accidentally slipped and fell in the lake. In a bid to save his brother, Nissar jumped into the lake, but both brothers drowned in the incident.
Old Goa Police rushed to the site and retrieved Nissar’s body at about 7 pm, while police were conducting search operations till late Monday evening to retrieve Sadam’s body.
Later, Old Goa Police sent Nissar’s body to GMC and registered a case as unnatural death.
Incidentally, both brothers had earlier carried out renovation work of the lake and were residing near the lake.
It may be recalled that the lake was recently renovated before the Ganesh festival, as the lake is being used during Ganesh immersion ceremonies.
