PONDA: Forest officials are on the lookout of two suspects for allegedly poaching two wild animals at Shigao.
According to reports, the two accused from Shigao on Tuesday allegedly killed a wild boar and a monitor lizard using a fire arm.
However, their plans to take away both the wild animals failed, after a local resident objected. Sensing trouble, the accused later buried both the animals in the forest area at Shigao. However, later one of the villagers contacted the forest officials and informed about the incident.
On Wednesday morning, forest officials from Collem forest range visited the site and collected samples.
The forest officials claimed that both the animals were killed using a fire arm and the accused are on the run. Forest officials are investigating the case.
When contacted, Deputy Conservator of Forest Pradeep Verekar admitted that there was killing of wild animals and samples collected from the site will be sent for analysis. “We are on lookout of the two suspects, who are on the run,” added Verekar.
