Two students drown off Candolim beach

MAPUSA: Two college students drowned off Candolim beach on Thursday morning.
Calangute police identified the victims as Anuja Susan Paul (23), a native of Kerala, and Gurram Chechu Sai (25), a native of Andhra Pradesh. Police said that both the girls were students of Mudra Institute of Communication, Ahmadabad.
Police further informed that 47 students of Mudra Institute of Communication had come down to Goa along with their faculty on a study tour. On Thursday at around 3 am, six of the students ventured into the sea off Candolim beach for a swim and as they were swimming, Anuja and Gurram were dragged into the deep sea by a strong wave and the girls began shouting for help.
Anuja Susan Paul was rescued and immediately taken to Candolim health centre, but was declared brought death by the doctor. However, Gurram could not be rescued and her body was washed ashore on Thursday morning at around 9 am.
Calangute police conducted the panchanama and shifted the bodies to GMC for post-mortem. Further investigation is in progress.
