PANJIM: There are demands that it be closed, but the right-wing organization Sanatan Sanstha on Thursday expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s decisions to extend the ban on the Sri Ram Sene in the State.
Addressing the media in Panjim on Thursday, Manoj Salunke of the Sanstha said it was not right to ban Sri Ram Sene in Goa. “It should not be banned as it does not operate in Goa. Moreover, the Karnataka and Kerala governments have not banned the outfit,” he said.
The Goa government had recently issued a notification extending the ban on the entry of Sri Ram Sene Chief Pramod Muthalik.
The demand on the ban on the Sanstha came after one of its members was arrested in connection with the murder of Govind Pansare. Another member Rudra Patil is wanted in the case. He is also wanted in the 2009 Margao blast case.
Sanatan Sanstha has also condemned Ramnathi resident Saurabh Lotlikar’s demand that the organisation be shifted out of the village and a ban be imposed on the ashram. “Lotlikar grabbed the opportunity thinking anybody can attain publicity nowadays by opposing the Sanstha,” Salunke said.
He explained that as a social obligation, Sanatan Sanstha undertakes social upliftment, creates awakening about the nation and that there has not been a single incident of law and order problem caused since the ashram came into existence at Ponda.
“To demand closure of the Sanatan ashram and its mission is unconstitutional. Elements like Lotlikar are opposing such freedom and behaving in an undemocratic manner. The government should protect the Constitutional rights of Sanatan Sanstha,” Durgesh Samant, ex-editor of the Group of Sanatan Prabhat periodicals said.
